You have completed your resume and you are ready to start applying to jobs. Before you do that, you should make sure that you are write a cover letter. A cover letter helps to introduce you to the company and position that you are applying to. The letter should detail why you are qualified for the job. You should ensure that you include some specific information on exactly why you are qualified for the job.
Here are some great tips of how you should write a cover letter!
- Opening
- This should be a basic intro into the cover letter.
- For example, you could write “To whom it may concern.” or you could write “Dear Sir or Madam,”
- Reason for Writing
- This should be the reason why you are applying to the position.
- Here are some examples of what you could write:
- “I am writing to express my interest in the position of…”
- “I wish to apply to the_____________ position.”
- ” I am writing in response to the advertisement for the ___________ position.”
- “I am writing to inquire if there are any vacancies…..”
- Talking About Education and Experience
- This is the spot where you will talk about where you went to school and what you got your degree in. You should explain any relevant work history.
- Here are some of ideas of how you could write this:
- “I graduated for the University of_______ with my ________ degree in ________. My studies have prepared me well for a position such as this one. As you can see from my resume, I did an internship with _______ company in the role of _________. I gained experince by doing _____.”
- You may also want to include certifications/ credentials here.
- Why are you the best fit for this position?
- In this section you want to include things that make you stand out from other candidates.
- You could write:
- “I feel that I am suitable for this role because….”
- “I consider myself to be an outgoing, friendly, and dedicated employee.”
- “I believe that I would be the ideal candidate based on the fact that I…”
- Closing Comments
- This is where you wrap up the letter and thank them for taking the time to review your resume.
- Items to include could be:
- “Thank you for taking the time to consider my application.”
- “I am available for contact and/or interview at any time. I can be reached at the following phone number ___________ and/or email __________.”
- “Should you require more information, do not hesitate to contact me.”
- Sign Off
- What you should write here could be:
- “I look forward to hearing for you.”
- “Regards, “
