Warehouse Safety

Working in a warehouse comes with its own set of unique risks. Integrated Staffing’s number one priority is making sure that all employees are safe while at work. We have multiple positions that our employees are working in a warehouse or manufacturing setting. Below are some tips to help you are be as safe as possible while working in a warehouse.

  • PPE – Ensure that you are wearing are required personal protective equipment, or PPE, required for your job. Some examples of PPE are gloves, ear protection, and safety glasses. Make sure you check with your employer on the proper usage of your PPE.
  • Cell Phones – Make sure that you are not using your cell phones while you are working. Some employers may not even allow you to have them in your pocket. If you use your phone while working, you are not paying attention to what goes on around you. This can lead to accidents. Just leave you phone in your locker or car to avoid the distraction.
  • Proper Lifting – Make sure that you know how to properly lift items prior to starting the task. There may be limits on exactly what you should be lifting by hand.
  • Proper Cutting –Some employers may require you to wear specific gloves while cutting anything. The biggest thing is to make sure that you make sure that you are aware of your surroundings and that you cut things away from your body.
  • Cleanliness – Make sure that your work area is clean. This helps to avoid any trips or falls.
  • Training – Ensure that you have been properly trained to work on a specific task or machine. Make sure that you speak up if you were not properly trained to do something.
  • Safety Equipment – Make sure that you are fully aware of where all first aid and safety equipment are located. It will help in an emergency so that you know exactly where you can find these items.
  • Attire – Make sure that your clothes aren’t too loose or baggy. It can prevent them from getting caught in any machine. Also make sure that if you have long hair, that it is pulled back. Lastly, make sure that you have proper footwear for the job. Make sure that you have closed toed shoes on. Some employers may require you to wear steel toed boots.
  • Inspect Equipment – Make sure that you inspect all equipment prior to every single use. Make sure that no parts are broken or out of place.
  • Forklifts – Make sure that if you are operating a forklift, that you are properly trained to do so. Make sure that you are going the speed limit. If you are working in an area that forklifts are being operated, make sure that you are paying attention. Do not jump out in front of a fork truck and make sure that the driver knows where you are at all times.
