Capital Region Unemployment Rate and the fiscal cliff

The Capital Region’s unemployment rate held at 6.8 percent in November, the same as it was a year ago despite the fact that the area gained 4,000 jobs during the year, according to the Labor Department.

The number of unemployed rose to 30,300 people from 29,800 in November 2011, while the number of employed also rose, to 412,400 from 407,400 a year ago

While the Capital Region continues to see a slight improvement: housing starts, an increase in jobs and an improvement in manufacturing would go a long way in creating a solid economic basis in Albany county.

And as the country walks toward the fiscal cliff, any improvements would be wasted.  Contact your representative or senator today to urge them to develop a bi-partisan plan prior to January 1st, 2013.
