Job Search Tips to Help You Find Your Next Position
Finding a new job can be a daunting task. You may not know where to start. We have asked our recruiters some tips to help people with their job search. Below are 5 job search tips that they came up with.
- Apply even if you’re not a perfect fit
- Don’t just assume because you do not meet every qualification of a job, that a company won’t want to interview you. Some companies look for people who may not have all of the qualifications but can be molded into a great employee. Also, some jobs are looking to fill a position quick and understand that they aren’t going to fin someone who meets all of the needs.
- Research companies
- Look up companies and see if what they do interests you. Check out their reviews from their team members, past and present, to see what they say about the company culture. This can help determine if it is really a company you want to look into and be a part of their team.
- Update and customize your resume
- Make sure your resume is up to date. The worse thing you can do is submit an outdated resume to a potential employer. They want to know what you have recently done. Also make sure your resume is cookie cutter and looks similar to other resumes. You want to ensure your resume stands out from other candidates.
- Network
- Tell friend and family that you are looking for a new job. They may have ideas of where to apply. Also, look on LinkedIn and connect with people who may be a part of a company that you are interested in. You can also attend job fairs, either in person or virtually. Integrated Staffing attends various job fair throughout the Capital Region. We work with NYS Department of Labor to attend their virtual job fair regularly. We also host in-person job fairs on a regular basis.
- Send thank you emails after interviews
- We love it when our candidates send thank you emails or notes after an interview. It lets us know that that candidate is engaged and is interested in the job. It also helps you stick out from others in the candidate pool that did not follow up after an interview to say thank you.
