3 ways to step up your interview game
1. Know more than just the description
It’s easy to just skim through a job posting, get a basic Idea of the job, and see if you meet the qualifications. However, taking it a step further can make a huge impact. Set some time aside to get familiar with the company by Googling them and look through there website. Learn about the company’s mission, recent news or culture. Look into the team if you can, and think about how your experience connects to what they’re trying to accomplish.
The more you know, the more comfortable you will be during the interview. This also shows the interviewer that you are interested in the company.
2. Treat the Interview like a Conversation.
One thing that people tend to forget is that all interviews are just two-way conversations. Sometimes people treat as more of a interrogation.
It’s not as simple as “question then answer”. Talk about any stories you might have that relate to the question. Go in depth about your previous experience. Get to know your Interviewer a little bit.
Getting into this mindset will make the interview flow very smoothly.
3. ASK QUESTIONS!!!!
Another thing that people forget is to ask questions at the end of the interview. It is EXTREMELY Important you do this. While it’s tempting to say no, it is actually one of the best opportunities to leave a strong impression.
Asking questions shows the interviewer that you have a interest in the company, especially if they are genuine and thoughtful. Instead of asking about salary or benefits right away, ask questions about the company and work culture. Questions like, “What does success look like in this role?” or “What do you enjoy most about working here?” can lead to meaningful conversations and help you determine if the job is the right fit.
Make sure to ask at least 2-5 questions at the end of the Interview.
