Job Hunting Mistakes

Since Integrated Staffing has experienced each of these lately (some often!), here are some tactics to avoid when job hunting:

  • Applied for a job where the pay rate indicated at the top of the job description, was too low and not acceptable.
  • Applied for a job where the job location indicated at the top of the job description, was too far a drive and not acceptable.
  • Applied for a job where the specific work hours/days listed at the top of the job description, were not acceptable.
  • Applied for a job that indicated specific required skill sets and the candidate did not have any of them.
  • Same candidate applied for a number of different positions, with the same company, on the same day.
  • Candidate scheduled to come in for an interview and did not show or call. This actually happens frequently.

These actions will make you memorable, but not in a positive way!  Fully read the job posting before submitting your application, to ensure the hours, pay rate and location will work for you – and that you are qualified.  Otherwise, it may only aggravate the employer and waste your time.

Applying for anything and everything gives the impression that you are lacking direction and focus, or are too desperate.  Know your skills, interest and experience before applying.

Lastly, if you are contacted and agree to an interview, show up!  Unexpected circumstances may arise, but show the courtesy and respect of calling to cancel.

Always treat others with courtesy and respect, you never know how they may be able to help, or hurt you, in your future career.
